Today Year 1 have been using the iPads to investigate how the dinosaurs became extinct. We used a website to look at different theories, then we presented our findings to the class.
Today in maths we have been solving addition and subtraction sums. We had to work out the sum and decided if the answers were greater than or less than another sum. If the sum was incorrect we were allowed to move two number cards to make the sum correct. Great teamwork Year 1, well done!
As part of ‘Children’s mental health week’ we talked about how to keep our body and our mind healthy. We talked about feelings and watched some clips from ‘Inside Out’. After we had watched the clips we discussed how the character felt and what she did, we also thought of ways the character could stay calm and not get upset in future.
Today we found out about a famous fossil hunter ‘Mary Anning’. We made our own dinosaur skeleton pictures. We drew an outline and used pasta to make our skeleton. Great work Year 1!
Today is Chinese New Year. To celebrate Year 1 practised acting out the story of Chinese New Year. Year 1 were fantastic and acted out the story really well!
Last week in RE Year 1 went into the woodland area to take pictures of nature. Today Year 1 used their photographs to create their own nature collage. Great work Year 1!
This week Year 1 have been exploring properties of 2D shapes. We used vocabulary such as; sides, vertices, straight and curved to describe the shapes. Then children had to work in groups to create their own criteria to sort the 2D shapes. There was lots of good discussion and team work.
In RE this term Year 1 are learning about Christian beliefs. Last week we learnt that Christians believe God created all nature. Today we went outside and took photographs of all the nature we could find in the school grounds. Year 1 took some lovely photographs on their iPads, we may have some future photographers in our class!
