Yesterday KS1 performed their Nativity ‘The Star Attraction’. The singing and the acting was fantastic and we were so proud of them for all of their hard work. Thank you parents for all of your support, we hope you enjoyed the show. Well done KS1!!
This afternoon in our topic lesson Father Christmas asked us to design a new home for him and his elves. We visited the North Pole and looked at the weather. We talked about homes in cold places and decided on different materials the house could be made out of. We also decided the house should only have a few windows incase it gets too cold. Super home designs Year One, I think Father Christmas will be very impressed with your designs.
During December we are practising using bar models to solve mathematical problems. Today we had to solve an addition problem for Perkin the elf. We used counters to help us solve the problem in pairs.
This week in English we have been watching ‘The Bear and The Hare’. Today we made predictions about what we think happened after the bear saw the Christmas tree. Year 1 shared their ideas with a partner and made story maps. After that Year 1 presented their story maps to the class.
This week in English we are learning about fiction and nonfiction books. Today we looked at the differences between fiction and nonfiction books and some features of fiction and nonfiction books. After that Year 1 had their own books to look at and sort into fiction or nonfiction.
This week is Anti-Bullying week. Today we talked about what bullying is and different ways we can deal with bullying. Year 1 came up with some great ideas, well done!
This week we have been learning about fractions. We have practised finding half of shapes. Today we have been learning how to half numbers. We found out that we can only halve even numbers and we practised sharing cubes and counters between two.
Today we have been practising asking questions. We had to ask different animals questions. After that we practised writing our questions, we had to make sure our questions started with a capital letter and ended with a question mark.
Our new topic this half term is ‘Homes’. In our English lessons this week we are writing a story based on the film ‘Up’. Today we made our own maps to Paradise Falls, we had to think about what prob,email Mr Fredrickson might encounter on his journey.
